The quality of financial research is determined by the underlying data, and data good enough for serious work has been hard to find. Sources that provide clean, broad and deep data have mostly sat behind enterprise contracts priced for institutions, not individuals or small teams trying to scale. As a team of former quants and analysts ourselves, we have had to choose between quality we couldn’t afford and data we could afford but couldn’t fully trust.

We don’t think anyone should have to make that choice. We want a student or a two-person startup to work from data as good as a large fund’s at reasonable prices.

The way financial analysis gets done is also changing. To be precise, the principles that guide high-quality financial research haven’t changed: standard rules like keeping data free of survivorship bias and point-in-time accurate still apply. What has changed, though, is how that work gets done. Artificial intelligence has lowered the wall that coding used to put in front of an idea, and now anyone with domain knowledge can describe what they want to an agent and watch it get built. Financial scripts, monitors and applications that used to take months to build can now be built in a few days.

This change calls for a different kind of data provider: one whose data is equally accessible to AI agents and to human users, and whose pricing and licensing terms allow it to serve as the foundation for new products. Agents must be able to locate the data they require and query it correctly without requiring frequent human intervention, and Xfinlink is therefore designed to be interpreted by software as readily as by people. Likewise, the startup builders of the new era who want to present financial data to their end users should be able to do so without bespoke contracts or negotiation.
